Engineering Entrepreneurship: Industry Analysis & Market Research

 

In this fast-paced overview workshop you will learn how to identify industries and perform market research to understand customer needs. This workshop will be of interest to students preparing to work in manufacturing/service companies, as well as, researchers who are preparing market assessments for NSF grants and DARPA SBIR/STTR program grants.

Attendees will learn how to identify an industry, perform a SWOT analysis, and use the Porter 5 Forces Model to identify the competitive rivalry within an industry. Attendees will learn how to size their market and measure growth and how to divide the industry into addressable market segments. A customer identification example will teach attendees how to find customers along the value chain in the target market. The class will close with suggestions on researching and identifying a list of the key competitors to your product or service.
