Evaluating Resources: Creating Empowered Information Consumers (Emily Mann & Kirsten Kinsley):

 

Attendees will learn how to locate and evaluate resources found on the Internet and in FSU Library databases. Participants will also gain insights about tools used to access and evaluate primary and secondary sources, peer-reviewed journals, and social sciences library databases.

Literature Review Made Easy (Kyung Kim):

 

This session will introduce participants to practical tips for preparing literature reviews from selecting topics to preparing drafts and revisions. At the end of the session, attendees will be able to build a research toolkit for current and future literature review projects.

Tools for Collaborative Project Management (Renaine Julian & Sarah Stanley):

 

This workshop will help participants maximize efficiency and transparency in group projects and facilitate effective communication within project teams. We introduce four collaborative project management tools: Trello, Open Science Framework, GitHub, and Slack.

Census Business Data Sets for Use in the Social Sciences (Trip Wyckoff):

 

Participants will learn about various search strategies for U.S. Census data sets covering businesses and industrial data elements that can be used for social science research and with other U.S. Census data initiatives.

How Not to Deceive with Statistics in Social Science Research (Jesse Klein):

 

Participants will learn to identify sources of bad statistics, methods used for manipulating numbers, inappropriate comparisons, and creative graphs in social science research.

 

3 – 3:50 (Scholars Commons Instruction Room)

Government Information Research (Mohamed Berray):

 

This session will introduce participants to search strategies for U.S. Government information as well as resources from both the legislative and executive branches of government.
