This workshop will review key court decisions and legislative history to show how Fair Use is not a defense to copyright infringement, but rather a critical legal right. In addition to learning about the legal precedent around Fair Use, participants will also gain a practical understanding of (1) how to conduct a Fair Use assessment and (2) the ways that Fair Use is often exercised by library users in the course teaching, scholarship, and research.
